Hello. I'm torrey. How are you? I am figuring out this whole thing that we call Life. Day by day. I need my tea and my faith during the day, and I'm good. Lovin' never hurt, either. I live my life with a great man and my rats; what more could a girl need?

The relationships of siblings and friends in The Lizzie Bennet Diaries and their importance to the story, rather than just the Lizzie/Darcy dynamics, is what I think makes the show so impacting. Don’t get me wrong, I love the Lizzie/Darcy story, but that is not the main focus of the overarching story.

I think that many people forget that Pride and Prejudice is a love story for many people and in many aspects. The Lizzie Bennet Diaries shows the blossoming love story of Lizzie and Darcy, the love story of Bing and Jane (which gets unbelievably better, and I am so excited for it), the unhealthy and destructive love stories of George and Gigi and that of George and Lydia, both filled with manipulations from a man who was not good to young women who wore their hearts on their sleeves, but wanted to be needed. Hell, we even got another love story for Fitz and his boyfriend, Brandon (which is totally rad). Yes, romantic love is an important love story to the overarching story, but family is also so important.

You see the relationships of the three Bennet sisters and everything that goes on with them, and I think that the creators and writers did a wonderful job of furthering the development of their dynamics and their friendships and relationships with one another. You have the closeness of Jane and Lizzie, which you saw in the novel. But then you have the Lizzie and Lydia relationship which changes and grows and develops much deeper throughout everything, which is great. You also have a better relationship between the eldest of the sisters, Jane, and Lydia, the youngest, and I think it shows well. And there is the Lydia and Mary relationship. Then you have Gigi and Darcy and you see their love for one another, and how far Darcy will go to protect his younger sister. You even have the relationship between Bing and Caroline, and that of Maria and Charlotte.

And you have the friendships that are so strong, like Bing and Darcy, Darcy and Fitz, Fitz and Gigi, Charlotte and Lizzie, Lizzie and Fitz, Lizzie and Gig, and yes, even Collins and Charlotte. There are so many layers to these people and their relationships with one another and the amount of love they show to each other.

The Lizzie Bennet Diaries story focuses on more than just romantic love; it focuses on the love of family and the love of friends. And that… that is important.

I think that is what Pride and Prejudice is. It’s more than just the love story of Elizabeth Bennet and Mr. Darcy. It is about family and friendship and hearts being broken and healed and the value of love.
